About the event
Trekking among the stupendous granite peaks of Val Masino, reaching two peaks of 2700 and 3070 m. Challenging and equipped routes, breathtaking views, stupendous suspended valleys, welcoming historic refuges and legends about fantastic animals will give us three days of beauty that only wild nature can offer.
DETAILED PLAN:
Day 1 | Bagni di Masino - Pizzo dell'Oro Centrale - Omio refuge
Departure from the Bagni di Masino car park and climb along the path that first reaches the pastures of the Oro Valley and then the Omio Refuge. Brief stop at the refuge for a packed lunch and a beer and, after possibly lightening the backpacks, departure for the summit of Pizzo dell'Oro Centrale (2707 m). From the summit, the panorama is superb on Punta della Sfinge and the surrounding peaks. Return to the Omio Refuge for a well-deserved relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Difficulty: EE
Elevation gain: about 1600 D+
Duration: all day
Packed lunch, dinner in refuge
Day 2 | Omio refuge - Barbacan Pass - Pizzo Porcellizzo - Gianetti refuge
After an excellent breakfast at the refuge, departure for the Passo dell'Oro and the Passo Barbacan. After a tiring climb to the pass, the descent into Val Porcellizzo is tecnical and, sometimes exposed. But it doesn't end there! Before reaching the refuge, we will detour to climb our second peak: Pizzo Porcellizzo (3075 m)! The ascent takes place on a stony and bumpy path but never exposed. From the summit the panorama is truly exceptional, with Pizzo Badile and Cengalo in the foreground. The descent towards the Gianetti refuge presents a truly suggestive passage, through a real "secret passage" in the mountain.
Once we reach the refuge we will celebrate our successes with a nice beer and a well-deserved dinner.
Difficulty: EE
Elevation gain: about 1200 D+
Duration: all day
Packed lunch, dinner in refuge
Day 3 | Gianetti refuge - Bagni di Masino
A decidedly more relaxing day than the other two, but which, precisely for this reason, will perhaps allow us to enjoy even more the beauty of the places that surround us. After breakfast at the refuge, we will begin the descent through the pastures of Val Porcellizzo, dotted with granite slabs. Having reached the bridge over the Masino torrent, we will allow ourselves a lunch break and (why not?) some refreshment in the cool (icy) waters of the torrent. We will be able to admire the peak of Pizzo Porcellizzo from below and marvel at having touched it the day before. Resuming the journey we will reach the Baths by crossing the "Thermopylae", a characteristic passage between two huge granite boulders.
